DUKE is boxer shepherd cross.  When Duke was found he wasn’t doing so well but he has been nursed back to health and happiness! He’s a 3 year old gentleman who has been neutered, vaccinated and is up to date on meds. He loves to run and really enjoys swimming. If introduced, he absolutely loves other dogs and cats. He currently weighs in at approximately 45lbs and now all he needs is a new home here in Calgary where he can be loved.

Gretel is between 6-7 months.

Volunteer of the Month

LUKE and ARIELLE

LUKE and ARIELLE

Hello:

My name is Arielle McEwen and I am from Calgary, AB. I am the Postmaster for D.I.N.O. I post all of the pictures and Information that you see on our facebook page. I also help organize and help direct the other volunteers who pomote the other dogs in finding them their future homes. I am a nanny and an artist. I went to school for Interior decorating and one day hope to have a second hand design store. I have an Australian shepherd/border collie named Luke who is addicted to fetch. I am a vegetarian for health and empathetic reason. I love to cook, play guitar, sing, dance, and drink coffee. I have been volunteering with D.I.N.O for the last three months. I volunteer for D.I.N.O because I believe dogs bring true happiness to people’s lives and the thought of having rescued dogs put down after having such a hard life is heartbreaking. Every time I read one of our adoption stories and see the pictures they send in, the most unique joy fills my heart.

A Stray’s Prayer

Author Unknown

Dear God, please send me somebody who’ll care!
I’m tired of running, I’m sick with despair.
My body is aching, it’s so racked with pain, and dear God I pray, as I run in the rain.
That someone will love me and give me a home, a warm cozy bed and a big juicy bone.
My last owner tied me all day in the yard
Sometimes with no water, and God that was hard.
So I chewed my leash, and God I ran away.
To rummage in garbage and live as a stray.
But now God, I’m tired and hungry and cold, and I’m so afraid that I’ll never grow old.
They’ve chased me with sticks and hit me with stones, while I run the streets just looking for bones!
I’m not really bad, God, please help if you can, for I have become just a “Victim of Man!”
I’m wormy dear God and I’m ridden with fleas, and all that I want is an Owner to please!
If you find one for me God, I’ll try to be good, and I won’t chew their shoes, and I’ll do as I should.
I’ll love them, protect them and try to obey…when they tell me to sit, to lie down or to stay!
I don’t think I’ll make it too long on my own, cause I’m getting so weak and I’m so all alone.
Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry, cause I’m so afraid God, that I’m gonna die.
And I’ve got so much love and devotion to give, that I should be given a new chance to Live!
So dear God, please answer my prayer, and send me someone who will REALLY care.

Dog Nutrition

One of the 26 things you should know. Find out the second fact in our next issue.

1. Apples: All the stuff that makes them nutritional for us (fiber, vitamin A&C, omega 3 and 6, antioxidants, flavonoids and polyphenols) also make them nutritional for our dogs. Except the seeds. The seeds contain cyanide, which our bodies can filter out. But, our dogs cannot. They can suffer from diarrhea or weight gain.
